Why Studying in Canada?

Canada isn’t just a place to study – it’s a place to build your future. With globally ranked universities, affordable tuition, and a welcoming multicultural environment, Canada offers an education experience that’s second to none. But what truly sets Canada apart is its unique opportunity to turn your degree into a lifetime of opportunities. Through the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), your education can become the first step toward permanent residency, allowing you to study, work, and stay in one of the world’s most prosperous countries.

Build Your Career and Bring Your Family Along

Your journey doesn’t end at graduation. With the PGWP, you can work in Canada for up to three years after completing your studies, gaining valuable Canadian work experience that opens doors to permanent residency programs like Express Entry. Whether you’re pursuing a master’s degree or a diploma, the PGWP is your bridge from student to permanent resident, giving you the chance to build a life in a country that values your skills and ambition.

Studying in Canada doesn’t mean leaving your loved ones behind. Bring your spouse with you on an open work permit, allowing them to work full-time while you study. Your children can also join you and attend Canadian public schools for free. Canada’s family-friendly policies ensure that your education journey enriches not just your life, but the lives of those who matter most to you.

What You Need to Study in Canada

The study permit is your key to unlocking this incredible opportunity. It allows you to study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and sets the stage for your future in Canada. But navigating the application process can be overwhelming – that’s where we come in. FAQ

What are the benefits of using an immigration consultant?

Immigration consultants provide expert guidance, assist with navigating complex paperwork, ensure accurate documentation, and increase the likelihood of a successful application.

Completing a 1-year master’s program in Canada can be a significant step toward obtaining Permanent Residency (PR). Here’s how it works:

  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Duration: As of February 15, 2024, graduates of master’s programs lasting at least 8 months are eligible for a 3-year PGWP, regardless of the program’s length.

  • Pathway to PR: The extended 3-year PGWP allows ample time to gain the necessary Canadian work experience, which is beneficial when applying for PR through programs like the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under Express Entry.

The rules for online study and PGWP eligibility have undergone changes. Here’s what you need to know:

  • For Programs Started On or After September 1, 2024:
    • In-Person Requirement: You must complete at least 50% of your program through in-person classes within Canada.
    • Impact of Online Studies: Time spent studying online from outside Canada after August 31, 2024, will be deducted from the length of your PGWP.

To qualify for Express Entry under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), you need:

  • Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada, classified under National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3.

  • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score: While meeting the minimum experience makes you eligible, a higher CRS score enhances the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for PR. Factors such as additional education, language proficiency, and job offers can boost this score.

As of January 21, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated the eligibility criteria for spousal open work permits (OWPs). Under the new regulations, your spouse or common-law partner may be eligible for an OWP if you are enrolled in one of the following programs:

  • Master’s Programs: Programs with a duration of 16 months or longer.

  • Doctoral Programs: All doctoral-level studies.

  • Select Professional Programs: This includes degrees such as:

    • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS/DMD)

    • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (LLB, JD, BCL)

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD)

    • Doctor of Optometry (OD)

    • Pharmacy degrees (PharmD, BS, BSc, BPharm)

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN)

    • Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc)

    • Bachelor of Nursing (BN)

    • Bachelor of Education (BEd)

    • Bachelor of Engineering (BEng, BE, BASc)

If you are enrolled in a program that does not fall into these categories, such as diploma or certificate programs, your spouse will not be eligible for an OWP under the current regulations.
